LOCATION
Sindri
unit is located about 20 kms away from the district headquarters
of Dhanbad district of Jharkand state. This is the first fertilizer
unit in India. Later on it was modernised in the year 1974.
COMMENCEMENT
Mainly this is a LSHS / Fuel Oil based
Urea manufacturing plant. Sindri
Modernization Project was conceived in the early seventies
for modernizing the Sindri Unit which had become uneconomical
due to old age, poor qualities of available raw materials
and technical obsolescence of the process. The techno-economic
feasibility report for addition of new ammonia and urea production
and ancillary facility was prepared and submitted to the FCI
Board and the Government in May 1971. The Government gave
clearance to the project in November, 1973. Simultaneously
the World Bank was approached by the Government of India for
financing the Project. The World Bank accorded its approval
in principle to finance the project in October 1974. The project
was taken up for implementation with Zero date as the 29th
October 1974 with a time schedule of 48 months.
as
The
project consists of single stream 900 tpd Ammonia Plant and
a single stream 1000 tpd urea Plant and auxilliary facilities
such as Steam generation plant, Bagging Plant, BFW treatment
Plant, Coal, Ash and Oil Handling facilities. The erection
and commissioning of the project got delayed mainly due to
delay in supplying compressors and SGP Boilers by M/s BHEL.
Commercial production of the plants started from October 1979
against the original schedule.
